When to prepare for GATE Metallurgy

The best time to begin preparing for GATE Metallurgy (MT) is when you first heard about it or considered it while pursuing a graduate degree in engineering. According to our experience, there are primarily five distinct time periods during which students hear or think about the GATE Metallurgy (MT) Exam. Determine your time frame and begin planning accordingly.

When To Start Preparation For GATE Metallurgy (MT)

Time-Period

Consider or plan to prepare 3-4 months before the actual GATE Metallurgy (MT) exam.

If you are thinking about or planning to prepare and have 3-4 months left, it is best to plan and prepare for the GATE Metallurgy (MT) Exam from the bottom up. Start with GATE Metallurgy (MT) section tests and Career Avenues Mocks rather than theory. Whichever questions you are unable to answer or comprehend, read only theory on those topics.

Consider or plan to prepare 6-8 months before the actual GATE Metallurgy (MT) exam (typically students who start in 7 semester)

If you are thinking or planning to prepare when you have 6-8 months in hand, plan a schedule of 4-5 months with 2-3 weeks per GATE Metallurgy (MT) subject. Make sure to set aside one week for practise tests after every two GATE Metallurgy (MT) subjects.
Study the subject from the Career Avenues theory material and answer the questions in the book for each subject.

After completing two subjects, complete the online section tests from the Career Avenues test series. Do this for at least 4-5 months. After completing all subjects, revise all subjects (1 per week) and continue to take 1-2 Mocks per week.

Thinking or planning to prepare 10-18 months prior to actual GATE Metallurgy (MT) exam (typically students who start in 5th or 6th semester)

If you are thinking about or planning to prepare for GATE Metallurgy (MT) and have 10-18 months, now is the best time to plan and prepare. Choose GATE Metallurgy (MT) subjects that you have studied in college up to the fourth semester first. Study the subject from the Career Avenues theory material and answer the questions in the book for each subject. Do this for three to four months.

Now is NOT the time to take section tests or Mocks.

Choose subjects from your college's fifth, sixth, and seventh semesters. Study the subject from the Career Avenues theory material and answer the questions for each subject.

Taken GATE Metallurgy (MT) in the past but did not plan & prepare seriously earlier

This is as good as no preparation. So start from scratch. Choose study plan based on how much months you still have for GATE Metallurgy (MT) Exam. Use one of the above 3 study plans.

It is important to identify areas that you are strong and weak in. Make strong areas stronger while at the same time work to remove weaknesses. But remember, strengths make you win. So if you have a very weak area, do not overspend time on that. Get that part upto a level where you can answer atleast the easy questions.
