It is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

  • Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (3 years after 10+2/ 10+2+3(ongoing)/ 10+2+4(ongoing)/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs ( Also prefinal year of B.tech).
  • Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated master’s degree programs (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology.
  • Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering / Technology.
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UGC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(India), AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I), AMIETE By IETE(India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech.
  • A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in
  • Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible to appear for GATE 2022 examination. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

There is no age limit criterion defined by the exam conducting authority to appear in GATE

To apply for the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam, you can follow the steps outlined below:

  2. Filling the Application Form: Log in to your account using the credentials created in the previous step. Fill in the required information in the GATE application form, including personal details, educational qualifications, choice of GATE paper, exam centers, etc.
  3. Uploading Documents: Upload scanned copies of your recent photograph, signature, and any other required documents as per the specified format and size.
  4. Payment of Application Fee: Pay the application fee online using a debit card, credit card, or net banking. The fee amount varies depending on the category of the candidate and the examination center chosen.
  5. Preview and Submission: After completing all the required sections and payment, preview your application form to ensure all details are accurate. Submit the form once you are satisfied with the information provided.
  6. Print Application: Download and print a copy of the filled-in application form for your reference. However, it is not necessary to send the hard copy to the GATE organizing institute.

No, there is no specific age limit to appear for the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam. Candidates of any age can appear for the exam as long as they meet the other eligibility criteria related to their educational qualifications. The GATE exam focuses on assessing the knowledge and aptitude of candidates in the field of engineering and science, irrespective of their age.

GATE 2023 comprised 65 questions to be answered in 3 hours. 30 questions were of 1 mark and 35 questions of 2 marks, with the paper totalling 100. Three types of questions were asked: Multiple Choice (MCQ), Multi-Select (MSQ) and Numerical (NAT).
